Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
