Tetris Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Each time a prominent prize-giving event nears, one notices a demand to include of new categories to honor unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types actually cover many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
